The Company - a short history...
DKDance
was initially established in response to the increasing demand
for salsa classes and events across Northern Ireland, most notably
in Derry and Belfast.
At this time Colm organised classes and events and was sub-contracted
to provide services to clubs, schools, youth groups and community
organisations - as well as parties, hen parties, corporate events
and weddings - with Danielle providing support when and where
possible as she concentrated on her studies at the University
of Ulster.
During her time at University,
Danielle developed her Contemporary Dance skills and technique
as well as realising her love of Dance Education. This desire
to improve the teaching of Dance led her take a placement in Scotland
with YDance, an education dance company under the direction of
Andrew Howitt - a renowned choreographer and dancer. Danielle
used her time with the company actively providing dance to schools
and youth groups - allowing her to develop her own programme of
dance development for piloting here in Northern Ireland.
Her Dance in Schools Northern Ireland initiative now forms the
core of DKDance's work.
Both Danielle and Colm have been dancing salsa for a number of
years and have performed across Ireland, individually and in group
displays. They are both regularly called upon to teach at weddings,
corporate / club events, birthday parties and social events. They
have a vast experience of teaching for a wide range of ages as
well as those with varying physical and mental abilities.
We have recently taken on additional staff to meet the high demand
for dance classes and are constantly reviewing our provision on
a annual basis. Our additional staff have allowed DKDance
to extend beyond Belfast and South Antrim to schools and groups
as far as Coleraine and Ballycastle, Draperstown and Magherafelt,
and also Banbridge and Newtownards - further enhancing our ability
and promise to deliver dance to those who wish to take advantage
of our services. |
